Placitas Homes for Sale
At the north end of the Sandia Mountains, tucked away in the rolling foothills, rests Placitas, New Mexico. Majestic views, wild mustangs, and spacious skies add to this unique artist-community.
A small community, supporting under 10,000 people, Placitas is scattered across the hill tops and along the valleys of the Northern Sandias. It stretches in all directions, sitting right up against the mountain itself and pushing northward, but also stretching around the back of the mountain into the higher forests. Sage, yucca, and barrel cactus dot the hills between the pines and pinon trees. It receives more snow than Albuquerque, which helps maintain its unique ecosystem.
Eagles, owls, hawks, and falcons can all be found in the skies, swooping over the trees and disappearing into the nooks and crannies of the canyons. Bobcats, mountain lions, and coyotes are also present, since there are healthy populations of Cottontail Bunnies and Jack Rabbits, along with Kangaroo Mice and squirrels. The most appealing part of the wildlife seems to be the wild mustangs.
Placitas is one of the exceptional places in New Mexico that actually has wild horses still free-roaming. Many of the communities have been fenced off to ensure less damage, but the horses can still be seen along the roads and in the canyons. It is a healthy herd, and roams all over Placitas.
Plactias also houses many amazing artists. Studio tours, concerts, workshops, and classes are all an intricate part of this community, and the art itself can be found in almost every corner of Placitas, highlighting its unusual mixture of perspectives.
